Markesan Heritage Day - Markesan

The Markesan Historical Society is pleased to announce the 23rd annual Heritage Day at the Grand River Valley Museum. Attractions this year include a blacksmith, local honey, Ukrainian egg painting, kid's crafts and games of the past, quilting, the history of the passenger pigeon, hickory syrup and spinning. Local author Karl Stewart will also be available to sign copies of his book. Admission is free, parking is available on site and refreshments will be served.

Harvest Fest - Green Lake

Walk among the hundreds of crafters in three downtown parks, eat gourmet food from our food fair and listen to music and entertainment during the day. Entertain the young ones in Playground Park with bounce houses and other activities after they get their henna tattoo or face painted. The biggest parade of the season will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday with crowd favorites returning and new acts every year. Come early on Sunday to watch the classic cars role in for the Jack Taylor Memorial Classic Car Show.

Samite at Thrasher Opera House - Green Lake

Born and raise in Uganda, Samite is a world-renowned musician, photographer and humanitarian. He is the subject of the PBS documentary, Song of Refuge (1998) and founder of Musicians for World Harmony (2002). His smooth vocals are accompanied by the kalimba, marimba, litungu and various flutes.

Mitchell Glen Tour - Green Lake

Explore Mitchell Glen for the first time or revisit this popular Green Lake Conservancy Partnership Property with the Green Team. Local biologist and educator, Tom Eddy, will lead participants down to the glen that features 12.2 acres of maple-basswood climax forest, unique geological formations, outstanding biodiversity and spring-fed waters draining into Green Lake.

The Cashore Marionetes at Thrasher Opera House - Green Lake

The performance is a series of scenes taken from everyday life and set to beautiful music by composers such as Beethoven, Vivaldi, Strauss and Copland. Through a combination of virtuoso manipulation, humor, pathos, classical music and poetic insight, the Cashmore Marionettes takes the audience on a journey that celebrates the richness of life.
